Drywall Painting in Austin, TX

Drywall Company Austin provides interior painting with a focus on new drywall and remodeled surfaces. Every scope begins with proper surface prep — PVA primer on new drywall, stain-blocking primer on repairs, sanding between coats. We apply two finish coats minimum using Sherwin-Williams Emerald or ProMar 200 latex in the sheen you specify. No skipped primer coats. $500 labor minimum.

Painting Services

New Drywall Painting

The most technically demanding scope because new drywall must be primed before any finish coat. New drywall paper is highly absorbent — applying finish paint directly creates flashing: the paper absorbs paint at a different rate than the joint compound, producing a blotchy finish visible in any light. We apply PVA primer to all new drywall surfaces, sand, spot-prime bare areas, then apply two finish coats. Three coats over new drywall (primer + two finish) is not optional.

Repaint and Refresh

Existing walls in good condition: lightly sanded, two finish coats. Walls with peeling, bubbling, or chalking paint require surface prep: scrape loose material, sand edges, spot-prime bare areas. We don’t paint over failing paint and call it done.

Trim and Door Painting

Baseboards, door casings, window casings, crown molding, and doors. Satin or semi-gloss on trim is standard. Interior doors: two coats of semi-gloss on faces, one coat on edges. We mask trim from walls — no freehand cutting-in on trim paint.

New Construction Full-Home Package

Full interior scope: ceilings, walls, trim, and doors. Coordinated with drywall finishing hand-off. Work from a confirmed color schedule — not verbal instructions.

Sheen Selection Guide

Flat: Ceilings only. Hides surface variation but not scrubbable.

Eggshell: Living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms. Low sheen, washable. Standard for most Austin residential interiors.

Satin: Kitchens, bathrooms, hallways. More moisture-resistant, more washable.

Semi-Gloss: Trim, doors, cabinets. Durable and cleanable. Requires Level 4+ drywall — every defect is visible under semi-gloss.

Gloss: Accent trim in high-end applications. Requires Level 5 drywall or perfectly prepared trim.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need primer before painting new drywall?

Yes — always. PVA primer on new drywall is not optional. Skipping it causes flashing that can’t be corrected without repriming. Any painter who tells you primer isn’t needed on new drywall is wrong.

How many coats does new drywall require?

Three at minimum: one primer coat plus two finish coats. Over new drywall, two finish coats is the correct specification regardless of what the paint label claims.

What sheen for a living room?

Eggshell for most living rooms. If you have young children or high traffic, satin cleans easier. Avoid flat on walls in high-use rooms.

Do you do exterior painting?

Yes — siding, trim, doors, and fences using 100% acrylic exterior latex. No application when overnight lows are forecast below 50°F within 12 hours, or in high wind.
